WITH so much suffering and negativity in the world, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and feel completely helpless. That’s where groups like Sharing Hope Foundation step in to lend a hand. Not only with assisting children in need, but also giving people something to smile about.

Their Hope with Laughter comedy event, at the Auditorium Theatre at The Academia Centre Islamia, Imam Haron Road, on Saturday, will see comedians Phil De Lange, Yaaseen Barnes, Carl Weber, Stuart Cairns and KG Mokgadi perform in aid of The Baphumelele Association in Khayelitsha.

Last year Sharing Hope hosted a fundraising dinner in aid of children affected by the ongoing Syrian war. They raised R20 000 through ticket sales, donations and an auction. The money was donated to the Kirkhan Orphanage that has been set up by the Al Imdaad Foundation in Turkey.

“The Sharing Hope foundation is centred around uplifting the lives of our youth locally and abroad by way of having fundraisers to assist other organisations who’s ideals align with our own,” says chairperson Fatima Wise. “It wasn’t difficult to identify Baphumelele Association as a selfless organisation whose sole purpose is to uplift the lives of others, and children in particular. Among the long list of uplifting projects that they conduct, are the Child Headed Homes Project. This really resonated with us, imagine having lost your parents and then having the responsibility of looking after your younger siblings. This is a reality for many kids at Baphumelele.”

The audience can expect a night filled with laughter. “Yet at the same time, knowing that they have brought about a smile not only on their own faces, but on the faces of many young children.”

The event is not only aimed at providing funding for the home, but to also create an awareness of the dire need in the community at large.

Through this event Sharing Hope aims to bring communities together for a united cause, essentially bringing hope with laughter to the children they assist.
