Mies Julie up for eight awards

MIES Julie director Yael Farber’s adaptation of August Strindberg’s Miss Julie, leads the pack at this year’s Fleur du Cap Awards with eight nominations.
Bongile Mantsai and Hilda Cronje were nominated in the best actor and actress category while Thoko Ntsinga was nominated as best supporting actress.
David Kramer’s reprise of Kat and the Kings and KickstArt’s production of John Kander and Fred Ebb’s Cabaret cleaned up the music theatre categories.
Kat and the Kings picked up seven nominations for every main character as well as the musical score (originally written by Kramer and Taliep Petersen) while Cabaret’s six nominations were for main characters plus best costume for Neil Stuart-Harris.
Director Philip Rademeyer goes up against Michael Kirch (Bench), Kim Kerfoot for (Statements After an Arrest Under the Immorality Act) and Greg Karvallas (Champ).
Ella Gabriel was nominated in the best supporting actress category for The View while co-actor Gideon Lombard was nominated in the best actor category.
Jeremy Crutchley is mentioned in two categories – best actor and best performance for his role as Everyman in Sacred Elephant.
Charl-Johan Lingenfelder competes against himself for the best original score Kingdom of Earth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream while Patrick Curtis is up for best set design category for Doodsnikke and Mies Julie.
The awards will be announced on March 17.
