Workers at Village Main Reef's Buffelsfontein gold mine are back at work after a short, unprotected strike, the company said on Thursday.

“Village is pleased to advise that it has reached agreement with its employees, and that operations at Buffels returned to normal, with all employees returning to work with effect from the night shift on 7 November 2012,” joint CEO Marius Saaiman said.

Workers at the company's mine, near Klerksdorp, downed tools on the Monday night shift.

They were in the National Union of Mineworkers' bargaining unit.

NUM spokesman Lesiba Seshoka said one of their issues was about wages, and that the union had sent a team to help them resolve the problem.
